ALT Attribute Analysis

Using the ALT attribute correctly is an important component for multiple reasons. One of the main ones is probably the one of universal design where we aim to produce websites that can be used by all people including those with a visual impairment using screen readers. In the United States of America alone live more than 8 million blind people and a multiple of that number of visually impaired.

It is not a secret that ALT attribute text is rated highly by Google and other search engines (See here for more information https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/114016?hl=en).

The results table shows the actual ALT text as well as the entire HTML segment of the IMG tag. If the alt tag doesn't exist or is empty then the red text '''Not Set'''. To show all of this occurrences simply search for '''Not Set''' is used.

As part of this insight we also extract text from HTML attributes placeholder and elements INPUT and AREA. These are considerably rarer than the ALT attribute and we have therefore decided to simply display them in this view. The search function can assist in finding these.
